Finding Joy

Sextant

What joy have you found lately? The bookstore, Books and Beans in Little Switzerland brought me joy with books, art, and eclectic items. I even found a sextant!

I was so pleased to have my story "Wherever You Go" that was Honorable Mention for the Betts Fiction Prize be nominated for the O. Henry and the PushCart Prizes by the wonderful folks at the North Carolina Literary Review. Such wonderful company to keep with Rose Himber Howse and Molly Sentell Haile. Honorable Mention in the Doris Betts Fiction Prize

Today I am grateful to announce that I have won an Honorable Mention in the 2020 Doris Betts Fiction Prize, sponsored by the North Carolina Writers' Network. Judge Josephine Humphreys called “Wherever You Go” “a powerful story about the need to escape—from grief, from memory, from love—and the gradual realization that escape may be impossible. Moving to a new place will not be the solution. The narrator is ultimately able to extract only minimal compensation, and yet…
